Bread Poha: Quick and Tasty

Bread Poha is a quick, simple twist on the everyday bread, transforming it into a flavorful dish. With just the right balance of crunch, warmth, and zest, it’s both exciting and satisfying. Whether for a quick breakfast or an evening chai companion, this fuss-free dish, somewhat similar to Pavacha Sheera, Bread Upma or Seyal Bread, is sure to become your favorite go-to meal. Follow these simple steps, and your plate of Bread Poha will be ready in no time!

Ingredients

  • Slices of bread (white, brown, or multigrain)
  • Onions
  • Ginger
  • Tomatoes
  • Capsicum
  • Green Chilies
  • Salt
  • Cumin Powder
  • Coriander Powder
  • Turmeric Powder
  • Red Chili Powder
  • Garam Masala Powder
  • Vegetable Oil
  • Coriander leaves
  • Tomato Ketchup
  • Green Chilli Sauce (Optional)

Preparation

  1. Cut the 5-6 bread slices into medium-sized cubes and set them aside.
  2. Heat 2 TBSP oil in a pan. Add ginger paste (¼ TSP), and 1 chopped onion. Sauté on medium flame until the onions turn golden brown.
  3. Add 2 chopped tomatoes, green chillies (1 TSP), and salt. Cover and cook until the tomatoes are soft.
  4. Mix in 1 chopped capsicum and cook for just a minute to retain its crunch.
  5. To spice it up, add turmeric powder (¼ TSP), red chili powder (½ TSP), cumin powder (½ TSP), coriander powder (1 TSP), garam masala powder (¼ TSP). Mix well.
  6. Pour in 5–6 TBSP water and let it cook for a few minutes, to create a thick, mushy consistency of the gravy.
  7. Enhance the taste by adding tomato ketchup (2 TSP) and green chili sauce (1 TSP). Mix well.Toss the bread cubes into the pan and mix gently to coat them with the flavorful masala. The bread cubes should absorb the gravy while staying intact and retaining their texture.
  8. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves and serve hot.

Serving Suggestions

  • Use leftover or day-old bread for better results.
  • Enhance the taste by adding roasted peanuts, a dash of lemon juice, or a tempering of mustard and cumin seeds.
  • Adjust spice levels and seasoning to suit your taste.
